God’s Truth: Finding Stability in a Proudly Chaotic World

In a world filled with fast paced media, the ever-changing news, the unceasing clamor of podcasters, the new, interesting, yet unwatched flow of YouTube videos, the never-ending doom scrolling of TikTok, the latest and greatest roasts on X, the piles of unread emails, the ringing of alerts, chimes, alarms, reminders, reminders about reminders–in addition to everything else life throws at a person–it can be hard to see truth through the fog of it all.

It used to be said that “a picture is worth a thousand words” and that “a video is worth a thousand pictures.” But in the current age of digital tech and media, with advances in AI and the promotion of technology, none of this is really true anymore. Pictures used to mean something because, for the most part, the world had an agreement on what constituted truth. And how could one argue against the validity of a documented incident? 

But now, with the ability to distort, corrupt, and fake all forms of media, and with the agenda to promote propaganda, and with the constant of media manipulation, we find ourselves asking the age-old question first recorded by Pontius Pilate, prefect of Judea during the time of the 1st century, who looked directly at Yeshua (Jesus) and said, “Quid est veritas?” And since then, the phrase “what is truth” has hauntingly echoed on in the hearts and minds of humanity.

Truth, a mysterious word of sorts, leaves us here in the Modern Era asking, “Yes, truth! Of course! But yours or mine?” Whose viewpoint are we to respect or show favor towards? If it turns out that everyone can follow their own truth, what, then, are we actually following? And if it is actually possible for every person to have their own truth, what then is the opposite of it?

Currently, we are, for the most part, living in a post-biblical-truth world. Biblical morality and traditional values have not been the norm for some time now, even though they were what helped guide society toward a consensus on what was good, right, and true. And so, with the constant pervasive perversion and the twisting of what the founders of the United States of America used to call “self-evident truths,” we find ourselves in the modern pickle of confusion and brain rot that unfortunately happens when a world cuts itself off from its foundational documents.

And what is the one foundational document upon which good and healthy societies have been built? It would be the Bible. The book given by God to the people of Israel as a guide for nation-building. How to live in community, how to respect one another, how to deal with difficult situations, how to become better humans, etc . . . 

God gave us His Word as a guidebook for life in this world. In fact, the Word of God, also known as God’s Law, is, according to the Apostle Paul, “holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good” (Rom. 7:12). However, not only is it the book that leads us into all that is holy, righteous, and good, but it is also the Good Book that leads us into all truth, as it says in Psalm 119: “The sum of Your word is truth.” 

If the God of the Bible is non-existent or uninvolved with the affairs of men, then yes, truly, “might makes right.” Every person can have their own “truth” even if it conflicts with other people’s truths. However, if we are truly truthful—honest with ourselves and with each other —the world is based on truth and trust.

In the writings of the Jewish Sages (Pirkei Avot/Ethics of the Fathers 1:18), we read, “Rabban Shimon ben Gamaliel used to say: on three things does the world stand: On justice, on truth, and on peace…” If any of these three things is absent, our planet begins to turn into chaos and turmoil. And if anyone has not noticed recently, the unfortunate reality is that if there were ever any words to describe our current situation worldwide, chaos and turmoil would fit perfectly.

The world needs truth; the world needs the Bible; the world needs the God of Israel and His law, which leads to order. As Yeshua, our Master, said Himself in John 17:17 when praying for His disciples (and by extension all future disciples), “Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.” 

God’s word is truth. Therefore, if the world was built according to God’s design, then His truth is the exact remedy the world needs. In fact, His words, found in the books of the Prophets, describe the preparation the world needs. We simply need to be willing to join Him in preparing everyone to receive the remedy for the lack of truth in this world.

In Jeremiah 16, we read that “nations will come from the ends of the earth and say, ‘Our fathers have inherited nothing but falsehood, futility, and things of no benefit.’” In this context, the nations are coming before God up to the city of Jerusalem, declaring that their current inheritance is nothing but lies and deceit. They are seeking truth, they are seeking clarity, and most importantly, they are seeking the God of truth—Who is the God of Israel! The story of redemption begins when the nations of the world recognize the lies they have been living in, turn away from them, and instead seek the L-rd of Hosts in Jerusalem!

The prophet Zechariah speaks of a time when “many peoples and mighty nations will come to seek the L-RD in Jerusalem” and will grab hold of a Jewish man, saying “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.” The next step after the nations recognize that they have inherited lies from their forefathers is to turn to the fathers of the faith—the children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Finally, Isaiah and Micah give us the crowning picture of the story once these prior events have taken place. They tell us, “Now it will come about that in the last days the mountain of the house of the L-RD will be established as the chief of the mountains, and will be raised above the hills; and all the nations will stream to it. And many peoples will come and say, ‘Come, let’s go up to the mountain of the L-RD, to the house of the God of Jacob; So that He may teach us about His ways, and that we may walk in His paths.’ For the law will go out from Zion and the word of the L-RD from Jerusalem.”

We can look forward to a time when the nations will reject the lies of their fathers; they will receive truth from the Children of Abraham, i.e., the Jewish people, and finally, they will say to one another, “Let us seek the God of Jacob and learn His ways!” 

What a beautiful vision we can look forward to and work towards! The lies of the media, the fog of the never-ending anti-truth narrative, and the push of lies and political agendas can seem overwhelming at times, but do not let them ever extinguish the flame of the future revolutionary redemption that will happen in Jerusalem. 

The lies may persist, but they will never win out, for we look to the future found in Zechariah 8, when the L-rd declares, “I will return to Zion and dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth!”
